inferno

Fire (Heile in ancient Greece) is primarily hot and secondarily dry. Fire is a mysterious and powerful magic of incredible transformative ability, taking what we feed it as fuel and turning it into raw energy - light and heat. The small amount of byproduct, or ash, that is leftover provides nutrients for the soils thus connecting fire back to the cycle of life.

Like all of the elements, Fire plays a crucial role in sustaining all life. The core of our solar system is the ball of fire we call the Sun, which generates light and heat through the process of nuclear fusion. In the miracle of photosynthesis plants convert the energy of the Sun into sugars, providing nutrition for themselves and ultimately us. When we consume plants the sugars and starches are broken down and that stored solar energy is released.

The platonic solid associated Fire is the tetrahedron, a four sided shape, whose faces are equilateral triangles. It is the simplest of all polyhedrons, and it uses the least number of faces to enclose any three dimensional space. Plato considered the tetrahedron's simplicity and sharpness an appropriate metaphor for Fire.tetrahedron

The element of Fire has the qualities of being hot and dry. It is heat, light and intense energy. It is passion. Fire ignites, purifies and consumes. Its associations are with the south, summer, noon and young adulthood. The Fire astrological signs are Aries, Leo and Sagittarius.

An Altar To Fire

In the southern part of your house, drape and decorate a table in red and orange. Offer candles, snakeskins, sand, desert roses, red stones and incense and herbs sacred to fire. Invite the Element Fire to make this space its home. Light candles and incense on this altar when you ask your Higher Will for guidance or work on your fears.
